For 40 years, Young's Jersey Dairy in Yellow Springs, Ohio, has hosted a massive Easter egg hunt with 10,000 real, hand-dyed eggs. It was iconic. But this year, there's a twist- no real eggs.
Instead of ditching the tradition, they’ve switched to plastic eggs. Why? Sky-high egg prices and short supply made it tough to find enough. "We didn’t want to wipe out local stores just for one event," said John Young, part of the family-run farm.
But don't worry, the plastic eggs come with fun surprises inside, like coupons for free carousel rides! Plus, the $3,000 they usually spend on eggs is now going to local food banks. That’s a major win for the community.
Meanwhile, Gen Z is getting creative. People are dyeing potatoes, onions, even marshmallows for Easter. TikTok is loving it. Food blogger Lexi Harrison's healthy DIY eggs went viral, racking up 64M views.
So yeah, whether it's plastic eggs, spirulina-colored snacks, or candy potatoes, Easter is still serving vibes. And Young's Dairy is proving traditions can evolve and still be fun.
