Tahawwur Rana, a key accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, is undergoing a crucial 18-day interrogation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after being extradited from the US. This marks the first time Indian investigators have direct access to him. The interrogation centers around Rana's links to childhood friend David Coleman Headley and Pakistan-based handlers of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). A “protected witness,” who allegedly received and helped Headley in Mumbai in 2006, will soon be confronted with Rana.
NIA officials are also analyzing FBI-recorded conversations and documents falsely submitted by Rana for Headley's Indian visa. The probe spans multiple cities, as Rana might be taken to Mumbai, Agra, Ahmedabad, and Cochin to identify contacts and targets. With India seeking to uncover deeper layers of the 26/11 conspiracy, Rana's interrogation could finally expose critical links to the ISI and LeT's wider terror network.
