In an era defined by rapid technological shifts, continuous learning is essential to stay relevant - a principle at the heart of Delhi University’s Competence Enhancement Scheme (CES), launched in 2023 under the NEP 2020 framework. The initiative allows individuals of any age - including professionals, entrepreneurs, working adults, and senior citizens - to enroll in selected university courses without pursuing a full degree.
CES reserves up to 10% of seats in each course as supernumerary quota, enabling learners to register for one or two papers per semester and earn up to eight credits, integrating seamlessly with the Academic Bank of Credits system.
This scheme is more than academic - it's socially transformative. It empowers individuals who missed earlier educational opportunities, supports skill upgrades for mid-career professionals, and encourages intergenerational interaction as learners study alongside traditional students.
Notably, CES aligns with global models - like U.S. community colleges and UK adult diplomas - underscoring education as a lifelong journey. By opening doors to diverse learners under one roof, DU's CES champions a more inclusive, adaptable future for India’s workforce and society.
