Big News for Pensioners! DA Increased Again: Here’s How Much You’ll Get!

The Union Cabinet has approved a 2% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners, effective from January 1, 2025. This decision benefits nearly 1.15 crore individuals, including 48.66 lakh employees and 66.55 lakh pensioners.

With this revision, DA rises from 53% to 55% of basic pay/pension, offering financial relief amid inflation concerns. For an employee with a basic pay of ₹18,000, the hike adds ₹360 to their monthly salary.

DA is revised twice a year to help government employees cope with rising prices. The last increase in July 2024 saw a 3% hike, raising DA from 50% to 53%.

This announcement has sparked speculation about the much-anticipated 8th Pay Commission, which could bring further salary revisions. Is a larger financial reform on the horizon?
