On March 9, 2025, the Indian Parliament commenced its Budget Session, focusing on pivotal legislative agendas, including the Waqf Amendment Bill and the Manipur situation. The session began with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting the Union Budget, highlighting significant taxation reforms. Notably, under the new tax regime, incomes up to ₹12 lakh are now exempt from income tax, aiming to simplify the tax structure and reduce the compliance burden on taxpayers.
The government also introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill, proposing changes to the administration of Waqf properties to enhance transparency and efficiency. This bill seeks to address longstanding issues related to the management of these properties, ensuring better utilization for community welfare.
Additionally, the session addressed the ongoing situation in Manipur. Members of Parliament engaged in discussions to assess the current state of affairs and explore potential solutions to restore peace and stability in the region.
The Budget Session underscored the government's commitment to economic reforms, social justice, and regional stability, setting the tone for the legislative agenda in the coming months.
