Gurdaspur, Punjab — In response to heightened Indo-Pak tensions, the Punjab government, under the Civil Defence Act, 1968, has announced a complete blackout in Gurdaspur district from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, effective May 8, 2025, until further notice. The blackout aims to ensure public safety and manage emergency situations along the sensitive border area.
A government statement clarified that the order excludes Central Jail Gurdaspur and hospitals, though these institutions must keep all windows closed and covered during blackout hours to prevent light leaks.
This development follows India’s Operation Sindoor, which struck nine terror sites deep inside Pakistan, triggering retaliatory Pakistani drone and missile attacks across Northern and Western India, including Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Bhuj. However, the Indian Air Force, using its S-400 Sudarshan Chakra air defence systems, successfully neutralized these threats.
On Thursday morning, India struck back, targeting Pakistani air defence radars, including a system in Lahore, in a measured and intense response. Reports suggest over 100 terrorists were eliminated in the ongoing operations, though official casualty numbers are yet to be confirmed.
Authorities urge citizens to follow blackout guidelines strictly to ensure their safety during this tense period.
