In response to escalating tensions with Pakistan, the Delhi government conducted a mock air raid drill on Friday, testing newly installed sirens at the PWD headquarters, ITO. The drill, which began at 3 PM, featured sirens sounding twice and lasted approximately 15–20 minutes. Authorities urged citizens to remain calm and not panic during the exercise.
PWD Minister Parvesh Verma announced that 40-50 additional sirens with an 8 km range will be installed on high-rise buildings across the capital within days, all controlled from a central command centre. These will activate during emergencies for up to 5 minutes.
The exercise comes amid heightened military activity: over the past two days, Pakistan launched drones and missiles targeting Indian military sites, all of which were intercepted. Blackouts were enforced in multiple border cities, and Operation Sindoor saw India striking terror bases in Pakistan. Delhi's preparedness drills reflect growing vigilance as cross-border hostilities intensify.
