With the July 9 deadline fast approaching, the White House has hinted that the much-anticipated US-India Bilateral Trade Agreement could be announced soon. At a press briefing on June 30, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt affirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump shares a "very good relationship" with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has significantly accelerated negotiations.
Leavitt also praised India as a key strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific, underlining growing defense, economic, and technological cooperation between the two democracies. The trade deal, which has been in the works for months, is expected to address long-standing tariff issues, digital trade norms, and market access for both American and Indian industries.
Analysts say this agreement could redefine economic ties between the two nations and strengthen Washington’s posture in Asia amid rising geopolitical tensions. While final details remain under wraps, both sides are reportedly working round the clock to seal the deal before the deadline.
