In a major digital empowerment push, the Andhra Pradesh government has launched the 'Digi-Lakshmi' scheme, aimed at transforming the lives of urban poor women through digital access and service delivery. The initiative plans to establish over 9,000 Common Service Centres (CSCs) across all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state.
These CSCs will be operated and managed by women, providing them with employment opportunities and access to entrepreneurship. Each centre will offer around 250 public services, including applications for welfare schemes, utility bill payments, certifications, and more. The initiative is designed not only to bridge the digital divide but also to build digital literacy, especially among underserved women in urban areas.
Officials said that ‘Digi-Lakshmi’ will play a vital role in women-led urban development, making government schemes more accessible while promoting economic participation. The move comes as part of a broader strategy to integrate technology with grassroots governance and ensure inclusive growth in Andhra Pradesh’s urban sectors.
