A catastrophic explosion ripped through Sigachi Industries’ chemical factory in Pashamylaram, Sangareddy district, Telangana, late on June 30. As of the morning of July 1, 2025, the confirmed death toll has risen to 35, with numerous workers still missing under the rubble. Rescue teams from the NDRF, SDRF, and local fire services - including robots - have been working nonstop since the blast struck the multi-storey plant .
The facility, known for producing microcrystalline cellulose used in pharmaceuticals, saw flames and collapse triggered by a suspected reactor or spray dryer pressure failure. At the time, as many as 90–108 workers were present - many migrant laborers from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.
The state's Chief Minister has announced ex‑gratia for victims and ordered a high‑powered probe into potential safety lapses. Families wait anxiously as operations continue - experts warn the toll may climb further amidst fears that dozens remain unaccounted for.
