A man in Coimbatore caused Surprise at court when he paid ₹80,000 in alimony to his estranged wife in bundles of coins. This incident occurred at the additional family court in the Tamil Nadu city on Wednesday, as reported by the Times of India.

The 37-year-old man, a call taxi owner and driver, had been ordered by the court to pay 2 lakh as an interim maintenance amount to his wife.

A video circulating online shows the man holding two white bags filled with coins, walking out of the court building, and placing them inside a car.

He brought 20 bundles of ₹2 and ₹1 coins to the court. Upon seeing the ₹80,000 in coins, the judge instructed him to pay the amount in notes instead.

The following day, Thursday, the man replaced the coins with currency notes and submitted the payment as per the judge’s instructions.

The judge also reportedly told the man to pay the remaining 1.2 lakh of the interim maintenance soon.
