Many people believe curd and yoghurt are the same, but they’re quite different! The key lies in how they're made. Curd is prepared at home by adding lemon juice or vinegar to milk, whereas yoghurt is commercially fermented using specific bacterial strains.
Yoghurt contains a higher amount of beneficial bacteria, making it more gut-friendly. It's especially helpful for lactose-intolerant people, unlike curd which still contains traces of lactose. Greek yoghurt, in particular, is ideal for such individuals.
When it comes to flavour, curd is plain and mostly used in Indian dishes like biryani or lassi. Yoghurt, however, comes in exciting fruity flavours -perfect for kids and snack lovers.
Nutritionally, both are great. Curd cools the body and is rich in calcium and phosphorus, strengthening bones and teeth. Yoghurt, on the other hand, is protein-rich and supports muscle growth.
So, whether it's curd or yoghurt, both deserve a place in your diet!
