Delhi-NCR is experiencing a sharp upsurge in flu-like illnesses, driven by the H3N2 strain of Influenza A, which is now dominant in the region. A LocalCircles survey of over 11,000 households found that 69% reported at least one member suffering from fever, cough, sore throat or respiratory distress. Recovery is taking longer than usual: whereas seasonal flu tends to settle in 5-7 days, many cases now last beyond 10 days.
Vulnerable populations children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions like asthma, COPD, cardiac issues or diabetes are seeing higher rates of hospitalisation, including pneumonia and bronchitis. Some also report gastrointestinal symptoms. Experts recommend vigilance: flu vaccination, masking in crowded places, frequent handwashing, avoiding close contact with the sick, covering coughs/sneezes and disinfecting surfaces. Early medical consultation is advised when symptoms persist or worsen. Maintaining good nutrition, sleep and stress management also boost immunity. The goal is to reduce transmission, severe cases and strain on hospitals.
