In today’s era of quick flights and airport lounges, it’s surprising to learn that a few countries still don’t have an airport. Yet, these nations manage to attract thousands of tourists each year - all without a single runway.
Vatican City, the smallest country in the world, is completely landlocked within Rome, Italy. Just walk in after landing in Rome. San Marino, another microstate surrounded by Italy, can be reached by bus from Rimini.
Liechtenstein, nestled between Switzerland and Austria, is easily accessible from Zurich Airport via car or train. Andorra, a mountainous nation between France and Spain, requires a scenic drive from Barcelona or Toulouse. Lastly, Monaco, the luxury hub on the French Riviera, is just a 30-minute ride from Nice Airport.
Despite lacking airports, these countries prove that beautiful landscapes, rich history, and unique charm are worth the extra journey.
