Committed to ensuring the well-being of senior citizens, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has implemented comprehensive measures to protect the elderly, particularly during harsh winters. Old-age homes across the state have been upgraded to provide comfort, care, and dignity to the elderly population.

The government has allocated significant funds for the sustenance and management of these homes. In the financial year 2022-23, Rs 49.87 crore was spent on supporting 5,443 elderly residents. This increased to Rs 61.94 crore in 2023-24, benefiting 6,864 individuals. For the current financial year 2024-25, over Rs 40.02 crore is earmarked to support approximately 7,000 senior citizens.

Each district in Uttar Pradesh operates old-age homes with a capacity for 150 residents, managed by the Social Welfare Department. These homes ensure not only accommodation but also proper care, social security, and a sense of community. Special district-level committees have been formed to oversee operations, while welfare officers address concerns and enhance the quality of care.

To streamline admission and management processes, the government has established a conciliation officer panel and issued clear operational guidelines. These measures aim to ensure timely availability of essential facilities and foster transparency.
