I will retire at the right time, says Vice President Dhankhar!

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar stated on Thursday (July 10, 2025) that he would retire “at the right time,” in response to speculation about his future political ambitions. Mr. Dhankhar, who assumed office as India’s 14th Vice President on August 11, 2022, will complete his five-year term on August 10, 2027.

The remark came during a public interaction where he was asked about his long-term plans. Without offering specifics, the Vice President reaffirmed his commitment to the constitutional post and said he would step away “as per the constitutional mandate, not personal timing.”

Known for his outspoken stances and assertive role as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar has often been at the center of high-profile parliamentary exchanges. A former Governor of West Bengal and a senior lawyer, he has played a key role in presiding over crucial legislative sessions.

His statement is being interpreted as a sign of stability and continuity, amid growing speculation around the 2027 Presidential and Vice Presidential elections.
