Scientists have discovered a special gene called SDR42E1 that helps the body absorb and use vitamin D properly. Vitamin D is important for strong bones, a good immune system, and protection from many diseases.
But if this gene doesn't work, your body can’t use vitamin D well, which may lead to serious health issues like cancer and immune diseases.
In a new study, researchers turned off this gene in cancer cells using a tool called CRISPR-Cas9. What happened next was amazing - over 53% of the cancer cells died, but nearby healthy cells were not harmed at all.
This means SDR42E1 might be a safe and effective target for cancer treatment. It’s like hitting cancer where it hurts, without damaging the healthy parts of your body.
Experts say more research is needed, but this gene could become a game-changer in cancer therapy and in treating diseases caused by vitamin D deficiency.
