The Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched a major operational exercise, Aakraman (meaning “Attack”), at a time of heightened tensions with Pakistan following a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
This large-scale drill spans the central sector and features the IAF’s cutting-edge Rafale fighter jets, stationed at Ambala and Hashimara.
These advanced aircraft are leading high-intensity ground strike operations across varied terrains, including flatlands and hilly regions. The missions also include electronic warfare and complex ground attack profiles.
According to defence sources, the IAF has mobilized assets from multiple airbases, particularly from the eastern sector.
The exercise highlights India’s growing aerial capabilities, with Rafale jets now equipped with Meteor air-to-air missiles and long-range precision munitions like Rampage and Rocks.
Top IAF pilots, under the watchful eye of senior instructors and Air Headquarters, are spearheading these operations. The addition of the S-400 air defence system further boosts the IAF’s strategic reach, echoing the strength shown during the 2019 Balakot airstrikes.
