India gears up for rain, hail, and a cold wave with Western Disturbance

Cold weather has begun to grip northern India, including Delhi, as a new western disturbance impacts the region. Rainfall has been reported in several states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh, while snowfall continues in the hilly areas. According to the Meteorological Department, this weather pattern is expected to persist in the coming days, intensifying the cold with continued rain and snowfall. The western disturbance, active for the next three days, is expected to bring significant changes to the weather, including light to moderate rain and hail in various regions. Dense fog and light to moderate rain are also predicted in some areas.

The cold is expected to deepen further across many parts of the country. The Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rain and snowfall in the Western Himalayan regions on December 27 and 28. On December 27, rain and hail are expected in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Gujarat, with some areas of West Madhya Pradesh experiencing rain on December 28.

In the past 24 hours, temperatures have dropped by one to three degrees in parts of northwest India, while regions in Uttar Pradesh, east, and central India saw a rise in temperatures. The continuous snowfall in the mountains and the western disturbance will likely cause a chilling effect on the plains.

Delhi has seen light rain since Friday morning, increasing the cold. The temperature has dropped due to the overnight rain, and dense clouds are expected to persist. The IMD has issued an alert for rain and fog over the next few days.
