The Delhi Legislative Assembly has provided all 70 of its Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), including Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, with brand-new iPhone 16 Pro devices. Along with the iPhones, they also received iPads and tablets.
This move is part of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), a central government initiative to make all legislative work digital under the “One Nation, One Application” program.
The goal is to make the Assembly completely paperless and tech-driven. To support this, all legislators underwent training last month to learn how to use the new digital tools. These include smart voting panels, real-time access to documents, multilingual support, and secure network access.
Additionally, the Delhi Assembly has now become the first in India to run entirely on solar power, thanks to a new 500-kilowatt rooftop plant.
However, this initiative has sparked political debate. Critics are questioning the use of public funds for such expensive devices. Last month, the phone purchase limit for ministers was raised to ₹1.5 lakh, leading to further controversy.
The Delhi government, however, says the move promotes accountability, sustainability, and modern governance.
