GATE 2026: Key dates, Eligibility & Exam Pattern explained!

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 registration opens August 25, 2025, with applications accepted till September 25 (without late fee), and a final deadline of October 6 with late fee
The exam is set for February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, across multiple days to accommodate numerous candidates. Results are expected March 19, 2026

Applicants in their third (or above) year of undergraduate studies, or those holding equivalent government-approved degrees in Engineering, Science, Arts, Commerce, or Humanities—including foreign qualifications—can appear. There is no upper age limit

GATE 2026 introduces a new Energy Science (XE-I) paper in addition to the usual 30 subject papers. Each paper is worth 100 marks, including 15 marks for General Aptitude (GA) and 85 marks from specific subjects. Questions will include MCQs, MSQs, and NATs, with a 3-hour exam duration and negative marking in MCQs. 

GATE scores support admissions to M.Tech, M.E., Ph.D. programs and are used for PSU recruitments. The score remains valid for three years, providing flexibility.
