A 13-year-old student was electrocuted at Thevalakkara Boys High School in Kollam, Kerala, on Thursday morning while trying to retrieve his slipper from the bicycle shed roof.
Midhun, a Class VIII student, came into contact with a low-hanging live electric line around 8:30 AM during playtime with friends. Despite being rushed to hospital, he could not be saved.
School management claimed they had applied for relocation of the dangerous power line but received no response. General Education Minister V. Sivankutty ordered an inquiry, calling the incident "extremely distressing." Local MLA Kovoor Kunjumon blamed Kerala State Electricity Board for serious lapses. Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty also ordered a separate investigation into potential safety failures.
