On March 10, 2025, a massive traffic jam paralyzed the Akshardham-Ghaziabad road in Delhi, leaving commuters stranded for hours. The chaos was triggered by a protest led by the family of a 32-year-old man who was shot dead near Ghazipur Sabzi Mandi on Sunday night.
The grieving family blocked the busy stretch, demanding justice, causing a kilometers-long traffic snarl. Office-goers and daily travelers were stuck, with many frustrated over the lack of information. A commuter shared, "I've been here for an hour, and no one knows when the road will clear. It’s a nightmare."
The Delhi Traffic Police quickly deployed personnel to manage the situation. Their official X (formerly Twitter) handle advised motorists to take alternate routes to avoid further congestion. However, the jam had already impacted buses, cars, and emergency vehicles.
The Akshardham-Ghaziabad road is a crucial connection between Delhi and its neighboring areas. This incident highlighted the city's vulnerability to sudden protests, causing major disruptions. While the family's demand for justice is valid, such blockades affect thousands of people.
This event raises concerns about Delhi's ability to handle civic protests without bringing the city to a standstill. Striking a balance between public demonstrations and urban mobility remains a significant challenge.
As investigations into the Ghazipur murder continue, authorities must work towards solutions that ensure justice while preventing large-scale disruptions in the future.
