Italy has officially launched its Digital Nomad Visa, allowing non-EU/EEA remote workers to live and work in the country for a year. With an application fee of approximately €116 (around ₹11,700), it's an affordable option for digital professionals seeking to experience Italy's rich culture and lifestyle.
To qualify, applicants must be employed or self-employed with a company outside Italy, have at least six months of remote work experience, and earn a minimum annual income of €28,000 (approximately ₹28.3 lakh). Additional requirements include valid health insurance, proof of accommodation (typically a 12-month lease registered with Italian tax authorities), and a clean criminal record for the past five years.
The application process involves submitting necessary documents to the Italian consulate or embassy in the applicant's country of residence, attending an interview, and awaiting visa approval, which can take 30 to 60 business days. Upon arrival in Italy, visa holders must apply for a residence permit (Permesso di Soggiorno). The visa is renewable, provided the applicant continues to meet the eligibility criteria.
This initiative offers remote workers an opportunity to immerse themselves in Italy's vibrant environment while continuing their professional endeavors.
