With the Maha Kumbh 2025 approaching, a major controversy has erupted over the quality of water in the Ganga. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has launched a scathing attack on the Yogi Adityanath government, citing CPCB reports that reveal high levels of faecal bacteria in the river.
The Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) findings have raised concerns over the health risks for millions of devotees who plan to take a holy dip in Prayagraj. Yadav questioned the BJP government's claims of cleaning the Ganga, calling it a failure of governance.
The UP government, however, dismissed the allegations, stating that steps are being taken to ensure water purity before the religious gathering. With political tensions rising and public safety at stake, will authorities act before it’s too late?
