Maharashtra to borrow over Rs 17,000 crore for agriculture solar pumps

The State Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for the borrowing of Rs 17,000 crore from two financial institutions in a bid to strengthen network of agriculture solar pumps across the state.

The state will be market borrowing Rs 8,109 crore from Asian Development Bank (ADB) for Maharashtra power distribution enhancement programme for facilitating solarisation and expanding agricultural connections. Under this, power distribution network will be strengthened with increased capacity to ensure solar power is made available to farmers even during day time.
