The US Embassy in India has issued a strong warning to Indian and international students, stressing strict adherence to student visa rules. According to the embassy's post on X dated May 27, 2025, students who skip classes, drop out, or leave their study programs without informing their schools risk immediate visa cancellation and may become ineligible for future US visas.
This warning comes amid increased immigration enforcement and a recent deportation drive by US authorities. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) also alerted OPT (Optional Practical Training) visa holders to report their job status within 90 days or risk losing legal status under SEVIS.
Universities have advised students to avoid unnecessary travel outside the US to reduce visa risks. With over 1.4 lakh student visas issued to Indians in 2023 alone, the US remains a top destination, but the recent alerts highlight the need for vigilance and compliance with all visa rules.
