In a major development in the Bengaluru stampede case, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has quashed the suspension of IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash, terming the action against him "without sufficient material or grounds." The tribunal also noted RCB’s role as the primary organiser of the event that led to the chaotic crowd situation.
The suspension followed a tragic stampede during an event hosted by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) earlier this year. In its ruling, CAT found no evidence of deliberate wrongdoing or negligence on the part of the suspended officers and held that the gathering was largely due to poor event management by the organisers.
The tribunal directed the Karnataka government to reinstate Vikash Kumar and expected similar relief to be extended to other officers suspended in the wake of the incident.
This verdict shifts the spotlight from the police to RCB and raises serious concerns about how public events are managed in the city. It also questions the haste with which disciplinary actions were taken.
