On May 6, 2025, India initiated 'Operation Sindoor', a series of precision airstrikes targeting nine locations in Pakistan and PoK.
The strikes reportedly focused on areas believed to house terrorist infrastructure, including sites near Bahawalpur, Muridke, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Ahmedpur Sharkia, Faisalabad, Gulpur, Bhimber, and Sialkot. India emphasized that the operation was a measured response, aiming to minimize civilian casualties while dismantling terror networks.
Pakistan condemned the strikes as an "act of war," reporting civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. In retaliation, Pakistani forces engaged in artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in the deaths of three Indian civilians. Pakistan also claimed to have shot down five Indian fighter jets, a claim that India has not confirmed.
The escalation has led to heightened military activity along the LoC, with both nations placing their armed forces on high alert. Airspace restrictions have been implemented, and schools in border areas have been closed as a precautionary measure. The United Nations and international leaders have expressed deep concern over the rising tensions, urging both countries to exercise restraint and engage in dialogue to prevent further escalation.
'Operation Sindoor' marks one of the most significant military confrontations between India and Pakistan in recent years.
