Viswash Kumar Ramesh, the lone survivor of the tragic Air India Flight AI‑171 crash, was discharged on June 18 from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital - six days after the calamity that claimed over 240 lives. The Boeing 787‑8 Dreamliner went down shortly after takeoff on June 12, devastating a medical college hostel in Ahmedabad and marking one of the deadliest air disasters in India’s history.

After recovery, Ramesh returned to his hometown in Diu, carrying the mortal remains of his brother Ajay, who tragically perished in the crash. A poignant video shows him at the cremation ground, shoulders heavy with sorrow and loss. In the aftermath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah visited Ramesh in the hospital, and Indian authorities have identified more than 167 victims through DNA. Over 130 bodies have been released to grieving families .

Ramesh had miraculously escaped via an emergency exit, his seat section detached from the wreckage. He continues to recover, physically and emotionally, as investigators probe the cause of the crash.
