Sarvesh Kushare makes history; Finishes sixth, remarkable!

At the 2025 World Athletics Championships, Sarvesh Kushare achieved a milestone by becoming the first Indian high-jumper ever to qualify for the men’s high jump final. He had earlier cleared 2.25 metres in the qualification round to earn one of the top 12 spots.

In the final, Kushare held his ground among the world’s elite and ended up sixth, a ranking that marks a high point in his career and Indian athletics history. His performance was met with widespread admiration for both technique and grit. Notably, Anand Mahindra praised his journey from humble beginnings training without proper facilities to competing at the highest level.

Kushare’s progress, including a silver at the Asian Championships, underscores steady upward momentum. While a medal eluded him this time, his finish planted belief both in his own potential and in what Indian athletes in field events can achieve on the global stage.
