Sirens Scream Across India: Civil Defence Gears Up for Conflict!

On May 7, 2025, India launched extensive civil defence mock drills nationwide to assess preparedness amid escalating tensions with Pakistan. Directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the drills followed India's Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and PoK in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26.

Metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, along with border regions and nuclear sites, were focal points. Air raid sirens, evacuation rehearsals, and emergency control room activations engaged students, employees, healthcare workers, and security forces. No disruptions to transport or emergency services occurred.

The drills, possibly the largest since 1971, underscore India's readiness for potential threats as tensions rise along the Line of Control. Schools also conducted security drills, emphasizing public safety and coordination.
