Skills over marks? What the future of work really wants!

Students today must acquire a range of interlinked skills to succeed in an unpredictable future. These aren’t just tech skills, but a blend of emotional, analytical, and creative capabilities.

First among them is critical thinking and problem solving - the ability to analyze complex situations and devise creative solutions. Equally important is communication skills, both verbal and written, which help students stand out across fields. In today’s rapidly evolving job market, digital literacy - from understanding AI to coding basics - is indispensable.

Other essential skills include global & cultural awareness, allowing students to work effectively in diverse environments; adaptability & flexibility, to cope with change; and emotional intelligence, including empathy, teamwork and self‐awareness. Creativity and innovation are also critical - thinking differently drives progress. Finally, data & analytical skills and a commitment to lifelong learning round out the list, ensuring students can keep up as the world shifts.

Building these skills can help students not just get ready for jobs, but also adapt, lead, and thrive in whichever futures emerge.
