Dermatologists have raised concerns that certain skincare routines may inadvertently elevate the risk of skin cancer. While many individuals adopt skincare practices to enhance their skin's appearance, some habits might compromise skin health.
One primary concern is the misuse of exfoliating agents. Over-exfoliation can strip the skin of its natural protective barrier, making it more susceptible to harmful UV rays. Additionally, neglecting daily sun protection, especially in a country like India with high UV exposure, can significantly increase the risk of skin damage and subsequent malignancies.
Experts emphasize the importance of understanding one's skin type and needs. Blindly following beauty trends without proper knowledge can lead to adverse effects. For instance, using products with high concentrations of active ingredients without professional guidance can cause skin irritation and increase sensitivity to sunlight.
To mitigate these risks, dermatologists recommend:
Daily application of broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, even on cloudy days.
Limiting the use of potent exfoliants to prevent skin barrier disruption.
Consulting with skincare professionals before introducing new products into one's routine.
By adopting informed and protective skincare practices, individuals can maintain healthy skin while minimizing the risk of long-term damage.
