In a chilling incident in northeast Delhi's Dayalpur area on June 7, a nine year old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted, murdered, and stuffed into a suitcase by a 30 year old neighbor. The Class 5 student had left home at 7 pm to deliver ice to a relative but never returned. Her family, alarmed by her absence, searched and learned she was seen entering a six-storey building to deliver keys to the accused. Breaking into his second-floor apartment, they found her body in a moving suitcase, with injury marks on her face and lips, and signs of sexual assault. She was rushed to a hospital but declared dead. The accused, who allegedly lured her by dropping his keys, fled, and police are pursuing him.
The incident sparked protests by locals on June 8, prompting heavy security deployment. Police suspect the girl died from smothering or strangulation, with investigations ongoing.
