Today in history: a single decision changed India’s future forever…!

In India, September 2 has been a very meaningful date. On this day in 1946, the Interim Government of India was formed with Jawaharlal Nehru as its leader. This was an important step toward freedom, as Indians got the chance to govern themselves even before independence. However, the journey was not without pain. On September 2, 1947, the Parkala Massacre took place in Telangana, where Razakars opened fire on villagers who had hoisted the Indian flag, killing 22 innocent people. This tragedy showed the sacrifices made for India’s unity. In later years, the date also became known as All India Trade Union Strike Day, highlighting the power of workers in shaping democracy.

Across the world, September 2 is remembered for events that changed history. In 31 BC, the Battle of Actium decided the future of Rome when Octavian defeated Mark Antony and Cleopatra. In 1666, the Great Fire of London destroyed over 13,000 houses and important landmarks. Most importantly, on September 2, 1945, Japan officially surrendered in World War II, bringing peace after years of destruction.

Thus, September 2 is a date that speaks of freedom, sacrifice, and change—both for India and the world.
