On June 24, 2025, U.S. President Trump declared a “complete and total” ceasefire between Israel and Iran after twelve days of intense conflict—what he dubbed the “12‑day war”—via his Truth Social account. He said the ceasefire would commence within six hours, marking the official end of hostilities.
However, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi countered that no formal truce exists, stating Tehran will only cease military operations if Israel ends its attacks first—specifically by 4 a.m. Tehran time. Despite Trump’s announcement, violence persisted overnight: missile alerts sounded in Tel Aviv, and Iran retaliated by launching missiles at Israel and firing at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. While the base escaped serious damage, a missile strike in Beersheba killed three civilians.
The situation remains tense and uncertain. Iranian missiles continued to fly into Israeli airspace even after Trump’s ‘ceasefire,’ and Israelis remained in shelters as rocket alerts persisted. With no official confirmation from Tehran or Jerusalem, skepticism among civilians and analysts is high. Diplomatic efforts are underway, but the legitimacy and durability of Trump’s ceasefire declaration hang in doubt.
