A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, leaving at least 1,000 dead and over 2,000 injured, with the toll expected to rise. The epicenter was near Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city, followed by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock. The disaster also caused tremors in China's Yunnan and Sichuan provinces.
Myanmar's military leader, Min Aung Hlaing, has called for global aid, with India dispatching relief supplies and the UN mobilizing $5 million for assistance. Hospitals in Naypyidaw, Mandalay, and Sagaing are overwhelmed with victims.
Meanwhile, in Thailand, a 33-story building collapsed in Bangkok, killing at least six people. Rescue teams are working through the rubble.
With aftershocks still shaking the region, governments and aid agencies are rushing to provide assistance. The world watches as Myanmar and Thailand grapple with the aftermath of one of the deadliest earthquakes in recent history.
