In a bold and festive approach to law enforcement, Peruvian police officers dressed in costumes to carry out a successful drug raid in Lima on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2025. The operation, led by the Green Squadron (Grupo Terna), resulted in the seizure of over 1,700 packages of cocaine and marijuana. One officer, dressed as a capybara-native to South America-played a key role in surprising the suspects, effectively dismantling their illegal operations.
The Green Squadron is known for its unconventional tactics, often using festive disguises to blend in with local celebrations during holidays like Valentine's Day, Halloween, and Christmas.
These strategies allow officers to approach targets without raising suspicion. In this case, the capybara-clad officer and his team apprehended a suspect, marking a significant victory in the battle against drug trafficking in the region.
Colonel Pedro Rojas, the commander of the Green Squadron, explained the rationale behind the disguise: “On Valentine’s Day, we sought to camouflage ourselves with the character of the capybara.” This innovative method emphasizes the unit's commitment to creativity in crime-fighting.
Such tactics have proven successful in previous operations, including a December 2024 bust led by an officer dressed as "The Grinch," which resulted in the seizure of cocaine and the arrest of three suspects. Peru's Green Squadron continues to disrupt drug networks, highlighting the importance of adaptability in law enforcement.
