Starting February 17, 2025, new FASTag regulations will take effect, aimed at streamlining toll payments and reducing fraud. Issued by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), these rules bring major changes for all FASTag users.
One of the biggest updates is the blacklisting rule—if your FASTag is blacklisted upon reaching a toll plaza, your payment will be declined. Worse, if it's blacklisted before scanning, you’ll be charged double the toll amount unless you recharge within 10 minutes. However, a 70-minute grace period now allows users to fix their FASTag status before reaching the toll.
Additionally, delayed transactions where the toll is deducted more than 15 minutes after passing the scanner could result in extra charges. Meanwhile, banks can only raise chargebacks for incorrect deductions after a 15-day cooling period.
With these rules in place, keeping your FASTag active and topped up is more crucial than ever. Avoid penalties, stay updated, and drive hassle-free!
