Nidhi Tewari, a 2014-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed as the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She is currently serving as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Her new role, at Level 12 of the pay matrix, will continue as long as her current appointment lasts or until further orders.
Tewari hails from Mehmurganj, Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of PM Modi. She secured the 96th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2013 while working as an Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi.
Before joining the PMO in 2022, she worked in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), specifically in the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division.
She was promoted to Deputy Secretary in January 2023 and handled security, atomic energy, and external relations. Her expertise in international relations was valuable during India's G20 presidency.
Previously, Vivek Kumar and Hardik Satishchandra Shah held the position of Private Secretary to the Prime Minister.
