Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Thailand on April 3, 2025, for a two-day visit to attend the sixth BIMSTEC Summit. He was warmly received by Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit. Modi emphasized strengthening India-Thailand ties, rooted in shared culture and history. The Indian community in Bangkok greeted him with enthusiasm, with Sikh members performing Bhangra at Don Mueang Airport.
Modi's visit highlights India's commitment to regional cooperation through BIMSTEC, with discussions on economic development, connectivity, and security in the Bay of Bengal region. Following his Thailand trip, Modi will visit Sri Lanka, marking his first trip since President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's election. He aims to advance the "Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future" vision, ensuring Sri Lanka's cooperation in regional stability. These visits are expected to reinforce India's influence in South and Southeast Asia.
