Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh's interim government chief Muhammad Yunus will attend the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok on April 3-4, but a formal bilateral meeting between them remains uncertain. According to reports, strained relations between the two nations have led to a reluctance on New Delhi's part to engage in direct talks.
India has expressed concerns over Bangladesh's handling of minority attacks, law enforcement issues, and its growing military ties with Pakistan, including interactions with ISI officials. Dhaka, on the other hand, has raised the issue of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's presence in India and has submitted an extradition request.
While Bangladesh formally requested a Modi-Yunus meeting, experts believe that only an informal exchange of pleasantries is likely. With diplomatic tensions at an all-time high, will this summit further strain relations or pave the way for reconciliation?
