The Central Government has approved a 24% salary hike for Members of Parliament (MPs), raising their monthly pay from ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,24,000. The revision also increases their daily allowance from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500, while former MPs will now receive ₹31,000 per month in pension, up from ₹25,000.
The decision, notified under the Salary, Allowances, and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, comes amid rising inflation and increased cost of living. Meanwhile, the Karnataka government has approved a 100% salary hike for its Chief Minister, Ministers, and MLAs. The CM's salary doubles to ₹1.5 lakh, and ministers' pay rises to ₹1.25 lakh.
The Karnataka Assembly passed the salary hike bill without discussion, as the opposition BJP protested against the 4% reservation for Muslims in public contracts. The timing of these raises has sparked debates over political priorities and public welfare.
