Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently claimed that communal harmony has prevailed in the state since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took power in 2017, ending years of riots. In an interview with ANI, he asserted that both Hindus and Muslims are safe under his governance, emphasizing that a Muslim family thrives among Hindu neighbors, while questioning the safety of Hindus in Muslim-majority areas, citing examples like Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Adityanath, identifying as a yogi committed to equality, credited his administration for halting communal violence, stating, “If Hindu shops burned before 2017, so did Muslim ones.” He highlighted Sanatan Dharma's non-aggressive history and outlined measures like noise control and festival management, including covering mosques during Holi to avoid conflict. While defending the use of colors as harmless, he stressed strict administrative oversight to maintain peace, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a model of law and order.
