In a significant development in the Ahmedabad plane crash investigation, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) confirmed on Friday that the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR), popularly known as the black box, was found on the rooftop of a building - contrary to widespread speculation based on viral video footage. The recorder, a critical piece of equipment for determining the cause of the crash, was not located within the wreckage shown in videos circulating online.
Officials clarified that the recovery site was atop a doctors' hostel building that had been struck during the crash. The unexpected location of the DFDR has puzzled investigators, hinting at a possible mid-air separation or extreme impact force that dislodged the unit.
The AAIB emphasized that this finding is crucial for piecing together the final moments of the ill-fated flight. With the DFDR now secured, data extraction and analysis will commence immediately to uncover what led to the tragedy, while misinformation around the crash site footage continues to be addressed.
