Delhi has recorded its cleanest air in three years for the January to March period, with an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 85. This is a big improvement for the city, which usually struggles with high pollution levels. Experts say this is due to better weather, rain, and strict pollution control measures.
On March 15, 2025, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) announced that Delhi’s air had reached the 'satisfactory' category for the first time this year. Lighter winds, occasional rainfall, and efforts to reduce pollution from industries and vehicles have played a major role in this change.
Because of the improved air quality, authorities have removed restrictions under Stage 1 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). These restrictions included bans on diesel generators and higher parking fees to control pollution. The lifting of these curbs is a sign that air quality is finally improving.
Delhi has long battled air pollution, especially in winter when smog covers the city due to vehicle emissions, factory pollution, and stubble burning in nearby states. However, the recent data shows hope. In 2024, the city recorded the highest number of 'Good to Moderate' air quality days since 2018.
Residents are happy with the cleaner air and hope this trend continues. Environmentalists stress that long-term measures are needed to keep pollution under control. Delhi's improvement proves that with strong policies and public efforts, cleaner air is possible.
