Audi mows down 5 sleeping on Delhi footpath, 8-yr-old critical

A speeding white Audi struck and injured five people sleeping on a footpath in southwest Delhi's Vasant Vihar. The victims—two couples (Ladhi, 40; Sabami, 45; and Ram Chander, 45; Narayani, 35) and an eight‑year‑old girl, Bimla—are all migrant daily-wage labourers from Rajasthan. The child and another adult remain in critical condition, while the others are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.

The driver, Utsav Shekhar (40), a property dealer from Dwarka, was allegedly intoxicated at the time. After ploughing into the sleepers, his Audi continued for approximately 200 meters before crashing into a parked truck, at which point law enforcement officials took him into custody. Sobriety tests and medical reports confirmed he was under the influence, and he is now booked for rash and negligent driving causing grievous injury.

Eyewitnesses describe horrific scenes, with cries for help echoing as the victims were mowed down in their sleep. Delhi Police have initiated legal proceedings and launched an investigation into speed, alcohol impairment, and potential charges from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
