Aircraft manufacturer Boeing has issued a carefully worded statement following the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, near Ahmedabad on June 12 . In its brief message, Boeing confirmed awareness of initial crash reports and assured that it is "working to gather more information" while fully cooperating with Indian and U.S. investigators .
The crash marks the first hull loss of a Boeing 787 since its maiden commercial flight in 2009, triggering an immediate sell-off in Boeing shares - with pre-market futures plunging over 7%. Boeing emphasized the model's strong safety record but offered no specifics on technical causes, stating it is “in close touch with Air India, the DGCA, and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau” as the investigation unfolds.
Meanwhile, aviation watchdogs are probing whether the plane's reported issues - like the emergency mayday call and rapid decline after takeoff - suggest any systemic problem . Boeing's stance reveals a balance: affirm its commitment to safety, but await objective findings. Any revelations will carry huge weight for the aviation giant's reputation and regulatory scrutiny in the days ahead.
