The BJP has issued a three-line whip mandating all its Lok Sabha MPs to be present on March 21 for the passage of the Union Budget 2025-26. To ensure smooth approval, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has announced the application of the guillotine, a parliamentary procedure that allows bills to be passed without discussion in case of legislative deadlock.
The budget, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, introduces key reforms, including raising the income tax exemption limit to ₹12 lakh, increased capital expenditure for infrastructure, and enhanced support for startups. However, opposition parties, especially farmer groups, claim the budget overlooks crucial agrarian concerns.
The guillotine method, last used in March 2023, will expedite budget approvals, sparking criticism over the lack of debate. With tensions rising, will this move strengthen economic reforms or deepen political unrest?
